There we were…bright eyed and ready to embark on our yearlong journey. We landed in DC around 6 p.m. and were so excited to be free birds with nowhere to go and… we realized we also had nowhere to stay for the night! Cam hopped online to hostels.com and found one “near” the city. He convinced me it would be a great transition into what to expect abroad.
Super hungry, we discovered the actual weight of our bags on a mile hike from the metro to our hostel. I’m pretty certain I have stayed in campsites nicer than that. Good thing this is a yearlong ADVENTURE! Right?! Cam looked at me and said, “Just so you know, this is FAR worse than any hostel I have ever stayed in abroad”.
It actually turned out to be a great time! It is located in the heart of the Adams Morgan neighborhood which feels much like Capital Hill (Denver, CO), with lots of fun, lively bars full of people our age. We wandered around, getting a lay of the land then hung out with everyone in the common room. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and we even got some entertainment for the night when a HILARIOUS drunk dude began serenading us.
